Alstom Transport - Customer Case Study

Alstom Transport, a major rail systems and services provider in the UK, needed a more consistent and reliable way to manage waste across its Train Care Centres while improving recycling and recovery rates. The company was under pressure to reduce waste management costs, support sustainability goals, and maintain high standards across fast-paced maintenance and refurbishment operations. B&M Waste provided waste management services to help address these challenges.

B&M Waste worked with Alstom Transport and Haz Environmental to introduce a tailored on-site waste segregation programme, including special bins, trained recycling coordinators, staff training, and detailed waste auditing. This approach improved material recovery from maintenance and refurbishment activities, including metals, electrical components, paper, cardboard, wood, and general waste, and sent residual waste for further recovery where possible. The result was a diversion from landfill rate of over 91%, helping Alstom Transport reduce operating costs and lower its carbon footprint.
