A B&M Waste Case Study
Aintree Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, serving North Liverpool, Sefton, and Kirby, needed to improve its waste segregation and disposal practices to reduce costs and boost environmental performance. B&M Waste was brought in to audit the hospital’s clinical and offensive waste streams and support a more efficient waste management programme, including general waste, confidential shredding, battery recycling, and staff training.
B&M Waste designed and implemented a bespoke waste compound, added compactors, installed bins, introduced confidential shredding and battery collection services, and trained more than 500 staff on the new segregation system. The changes cut clinical waste output by over 23 tonnes per month, reduced clinical waste collections from 60 bins twice a day to 20 once a day, diverted 26 tonnes of offensive waste in the first four months, increased cardboard recycling to 165 tonnes in 2013, and helped the hospital achieve 100% recycling for over 20 tonnes of mixed metals.
