A BlueConduit Case Study
The City of Toledo, Ohio worked with BlueConduit to tackle the challenge of identifying and prioritizing replacement of lead service lines across its water system. With an estimated 3,000 residential units potentially affected and limited records on where lead pipes were located, the city needed a faster, more cost-effective way to target its resources and reduce lead exposure for residents.
BlueConduit used machine learning and predictive modeling to help the City of Toledo better understand which homes were most likely to have lead service lines, supporting more efficient planning, budgeting, and outreach. The approach was designed to maximize taxpayer-funded utility dollars, speed up lead line replacement, and reduce the time residents live with potential lead risk; the city said the work could help bring its estimated 30-year replacement timeline down substantially.
