A BlueCat Networks Case Study
TYROLIT, a family-owned member of the Swarovski Group and one of the world’s largest makers of grinding, cutting and construction tools, runs a global IT environment supporting ~4,500 employees across 27 production sites and about 15,000 IP addresses. After a severe Microsoft DHCP crash in 2010 that disrupted operations, the company sought a more resilient, hardware-based DNS/DHCP and IP address management (IPAM) solution to prevent costly outages and improve uptime.
TYROLIT chose BlueCat after testing; the deployment includes a BlueCat Address Manager VM for centralized IPAM, a central BlueCat DNS/DHCP cluster in Austria and seven distributed virtual DNS/DHCP servers with AD integration and hub-and-spoke failover. The rollout took weeks, improved DNS/DHCP reliability, cut administration effort with a single management console, added automated DNS/DHCP-IPAM lifecycle updates and network discovery/reconciliation, and positioned the company for an easier transition to IPv6.
