A BlueCat Networks Case Study
The Universität Salzburg, Austria’s largest university with roughly 16,500 students and 2,700 staff, faced a major IT challenge when routine DNS hardware replacement coincided with greater institutional autonomy and growing network complexity. IT managers needed a reliable, scalable DDI (DNS, DHCP and IP address management) solution to replace manual Microsoft DNS configurations that were prone to human error and to prepare for increasing IPv6 demand.
Working with reseller schoeller network control, the university tested and deployed BlueCat’s DNS/DHCP Server and Address Manager in a virtual environment. The integrated solution delivered centralized IPAM, workflow-driven automation, high availability via clustering, and network discovery/reconciliation to eliminate manual mistakes — reducing troubleshooting time, supporting IPv6 migration, and meeting deployment goals within weeks while exceeding expectations.
