University College Dublin (UCD) is a leading research university with more than 30,000 students and a rapidly growing campus network. UCD had built an in‑house DDI stack using BIND, Red Hat servers and a custom IPAM, but the environment became hard to maintain and unsustainable given the team’s available skillsets and resources.

After a competitive procurement process UCD chose BlueCat to deliver a resilient, scalable and redundant IPAM and DNS/DHCP solution. BlueCat’s engineer executed a smooth migration with minimal disruption, and the new system now supports up to 18,000 concurrent wireless and 7,000 wired endpoints, is easy to operate, requires little maintenance and comes with reliable vendor support; UCD also plans to add DNS‑level security.
