BlueCat Helps Cologne Bonn Airport Redesign its Network Architecture to Improve IPAM, Gain Visibility and Streamline Processes

Cologne Bonn Airport, one of Germany’s largest passenger and cargo hubs, faced a rapidly growing and increasingly complex network driven by widespread Wi‑Fi use, IP cameras and new IP‑based services. Its home‑grown system relied on disparate spreadsheets, multiple DNS zones and siloed teams, leaving the airport without centralized IP address management, limited visibility and mounting security and operational challenges.

Working with Axians, BlueCat redesigned the network into four secured zones with internal and external DMZs, implemented a centralized IPAM and caching DNS layer, and migrated cleansed data in days. The rollout included BlueCat Threat Protection and role‑based access controls, delivering centralized IP management, end‑to‑end visibility, stronger multi‑layer security, faster processes and scalable architecture that simplified administration and supported future growth.
