Mortenson Construction Looks to Revu to Help Deliver World-Class Design to the University of Chicago

Mortenson Construction, known for taking on ambitious projects, served as design‑builder for a new, nearly 400,000‑square‑foot University of Chicago residence hall consisting of four buildings with complex, three‑story curved precast panels. The team faced a major challenge: comparing highly detailed fabrication models with architect models for every unique panel and coordinating fast, accurate reviews and submittals across multiple partners—tasks that traditionally required weeks and risked revision loops and lost time.

Mortenson adopted Bluebeam Revu and Bluebeam Studio to enable real‑time collaboration: Overlay Pages reduced a two‑week model comparison to about 20 minutes, Batch Link cut hyperlinking from 6–8 hours to roughly 10 minutes, Studio Sessions and a shared Tool Chest standardized markups and largely eliminated revise‑and‑resubmit cycles, and 3D PDFs let non‑modelers view Navisworks data. The result was faster, more accurate reviews, clearer accountability, improved quality control, and significant time savings across design and construction workflows.
