Bernards and Colombo Team Up with Revu to Streamline Project Documentation for the Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District Replacement Hospital

Bernards and Colombo partnered to build the $57M Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District replacement hospital, a 25‑bed, 79,000 sq ft facility in rural Kern County requiring OSHPD approval. The team faced a major documentation challenge: two sets of drawings (a 500‑sheet permit set and a 520‑sheet bid set) had to be correlated quickly and accurately, but printing and manual comparison were too slow, error‑prone and costly given the remote location.

They used in‑house Bluebeam Revu to create an electronic plan room, leveraging Compare Documents, large displays and the Markups List to identify and organize differences. A 100‑sheet test took 3 hours and the full compare finished in 15 hours (vs. an expected week), saving nearly 400 staff hours, catching small revision details, speeding updates with Replace Pages and enabling BIM/3‑D PDF coordination and field plan review.
