Belgian General Contracting Firm MBG Makes the Leap to BIM

MBG, a Belgian general contracting firm, faced the challenge of adopting BIM for the first time on the high-profile AZ Sint-Maarten Hospital project in Mechelen. With no national BIM standard, a complex mix of public-private funding and many subcontractors lacking BIM tools, the team needed a way to translate 3D models into clear, actionable information for the field without slowing the schedule.

MBG deployed a digital workflow using Revit, Navisworks, Tekla, Buzzsaw, Aproplan and Bluebeam Revu, pairing Revu’s annotations, measurement and hyperlinking with a large touch screen and project extranet/iPad distribution. The result: faster, paperless markups and approvals, reduced latency between revisions and site teams, lower printing costs, and a hospital build that remains on schedule—while MBG builds BIM competency and plans to standardize these tools on future projects.
