Walgreens Counts on Blue Yonder’s Category Management Solution to Optimize the Consumer Experience

Walgreens, the nation’s largest drugstore chain, needed to make its new and remodeled stores more consumer-centric by delivering localized assortments while scaling planogram management across more than 8,000 locations. The challenge was to expand and iterate planograms rapidly and accurately—improving planning efficiency and store execution—without adding headcount.

By implementing JDA’s Category Management suite (space and floor planning, planogram generator and category knowledge base) with consulting and support, Walgreens automated localized assortments, built store-specific labor models, and shared planogram data across the organization. The program tripled the planogram library with no incremental resources, increased merchandisers’ bandwidth by 300%, eliminated 97% of planogram-to-store errors, and enabled faster, data-driven decisions via visual heat maps.
