São Paulo Distribuição e Logistica (SPDL) is the joint logistics arm for two of Brazil’s largest newspapers, operating a daily distribution network that reaches more than 900 cities, 700,000 delivery points and 1,250 vehicles. Facing rising fuel costs and pressure to cut distribution expenses while preserving strict delivery service levels, SPDL needed deeper, faster analysis than its existing spreadsheet-based methods could provide.

By implementing JDA Transportation Modeler with JDA Support Services, SPDL reconfigured routes and hubs (for example reducing a 29-truck link to two trucks plus a central hub), enabling rapid scenario modeling and continuous optimization. The result: $1.2 million in annual savings (12.7% vs. a 5% target), 20% shorter travel distances, 24% lower fuel use, 40% fewer emissions, a nine-month payback and an IRR above 18%.
