Case Study: Owens & Minor achieves reduced inventory and improved service levels with Blue Yonder

A Blue Yonder Case Study

Preview of the Owens & Minor Case Study

Owens & Minor Recognized for Its Supply Chain Leadership

Owens & Minor, a leading U.S. distributor of medical and surgical supplies with 125+ years of experience, set out to reduce inventory and capital investments while improving service levels and responsiveness to changing customer demand. The company faced challenges from limited company-wide visibility, slow reporting and an obsolete purchase-order system that made order creation and truckload building time-consuming and error-prone.

By upgrading to JDA’s demand, fulfillment and order-optimization suite and working with JDA services, Owens & Minor automated replenishment, order generation and truckload building and vastly improved reporting speed and visibility. Results included a 98% faster delivery of at-risk reports (now 30–90 seconds), elimination of an incremental one day of supply from roughly two‑thirds of safety-stock items, reduced labor and freight costs, and the ability to meet service goals with less inventory.
