Ernsting’s family, a major German cross‑channel fashion retailer with more than 1,800 stores across Germany and Austria and an online shop, faced intense pressure from faster trends and very short collection cycles (new stock arriving every two days). The company struggled to maintain consistent sales and margins across a broad product range and needed a more strategic, timely approach to pricing and promotions to move inventory within tight timeframes.
To address this, Ernsting’s ran a 5‑month pilot with Blue Yonder’s Luminate Retail in 50 stores, using AI/ML to analyze store- and article-level data and automate pricing decisions—implementing earlier, smaller markdowns more frequently. Compared with 50 control stores, the pilot produced faster sell-through and higher gross margins (over 90% of selected items sold within the allotted timeframe), prompting a full rollout across all stores and the online shop and a long‑term partnership with Blue Yonder.
