Hibbett Sports, a specialty sporting-goods retailer with more than 890 stores and a strong local-market focus, faced growing challenges as it expanded into the North and Northwest: regional differences in weather, sports seasons and demand made chain-level end-of-season markdowns mistimed and costly. The company needed a way to price merchandise appropriately by region to prove the sustainability of its expansion and move products more quickly.
Hibbett added JDA Markdown Optimization (supported by JDA Demand and other JDA planning solutions and services) to enable price-zone level pricing across four regional groups, automate markdown decisions and align forecasts and replenishment. A pilot across 20 subclasses drove a 25% increase in quarterly sales year-over-year, nearly 21% improvement in inventory turns, more than 25% lift in GMROI, and higher buyer productivity, prompting a company-wide rollout.
