How Usg Raised Productivity 4x, Beat The Ghs Deadline

United States Gypsum Company (USG), a manufacturer with a small five‑person packaging team that outsourced all design work, faced a major challenge: relaunching its brand identity while updating packaging copy to meet OSHA’s Globally Harmonized System (GHS) deadline. The effort required comparing and consolidating artwork and copy across more than 800 packages—work far beyond what their job‑bag process could handle—and had to be completed in nine months.

USG implemented BLUE Software’s Label and Artwork Management solution, partnered with SGK to build a tailored approval workflow, and adopted online proofing and a centralized Digital Asset Manager. After training 50 users, the team gained visibility, enforceable timelines, and clear role definitions, enabling them to update 800+ packages within nine months, achieve more than a 4x increase in productivity, and extend BLUE’s use across Marketing and Packaging for ongoing proofing, asset control, and brand management.
