Rutherford Controls International (RCI) is a long-established access-control and door-hardware supplier with two locations of about 35 people each. Facing a legacy system with Y2K risk, old technology, multiple databases and no ability to post to other periods, RCI needed a flexible, scalable solution that supported finance, distribution, production, real-time inventory commitments and a custom returns process without forcing them to change their business workflows.
RCI selected Bluelink as a low-cost, highly customizable platform ($7,000 plus ≈$60,000 in custom work) and implemented financials, inventory/order processing, production, bar-coding and a customer-only e-commerce portal, with one-way integration to Maximizer and in-house CRM development planned. Performance was improved via Citrix (with SQL Server support planned), most customizations were delivered on time and on budget, and the company achieved significant efficiency gains (revenues doubled with minimal staff increases); however, some specs required clarification and RCI notes that heavy customization makes sense only when critical requirements aren’t available elsewhere.
