How a rural district established an effective distance learning platform years before they realized they needed one

Marshall Public Schools, a rural Minnesota district, faced the urgent challenge of rapidly transitioning to distance learning in response to the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. The district needed a way to maintain direct communication with parents and students and to facilitate the assignment and submission of school work remotely.

The district implemented the Bloomz communication platform, which it had already been using. Bloomz enabled administrators and teachers to send updates via web, mobile, and text messaging. Crucially, its Student Portfolios feature allowed teachers to assign work, students to submit it, and parents to review progress. The use of Bloomz led to a seamless transition, with the Student Portfolios feature seeing a 237% increase in usage, and it strengthened the cooperative relationship between the school and parents.
