Micro-credentials for Career and Compensation Advancement

Harmony Public Schools, the second-largest charter network in the United States, wanted to improve teacher effectiveness, retention, and satisfaction by creating career and compensation pathways that did not require educators to leave the classroom. The district had previously kept professional development, licensure, incentive pay, and educator evaluation in separate silos, and it needed a more unified approach to support long-term educator growth.

With BloomBoard’s micro-credential platform and support, Harmony mapped new career pathways, defined competencies for key instructional roles, and launched phased, job-embedded micro-credentials tied to existing professional learning. The program offered stipends and continuing education hours for each credential earned, and within the first year educators from 28 of 56 campuses had submitted for a micro-credential, with many going on to earn multiple credentials. BloomBoard also helped Harmony expand the program’s use among instructional coaches and build toward a long-term talent system based on demonstrated competency rather than seat time.
