Capital Area Intermediate Unit 15 builds on-the-job teacher pathways with BloomBoard for 50+ future educators

Capital Area Intermediate Unit 15 (CAIU) was facing a growing teacher shortage in its member school districts in Pennsylvania. To address this, they sought to create new pathways for aspiring teachers, particularly current paraprofessionals, for whom time and cost were significant barriers to earning a degree and certification. They partnered with BloomBoard to develop an innovative on-the-job teacher residency program.

BloomBoard helped CAIU implement the Capital Area Pathways to Teaching (CAPT) program, which offers multiple entry points for paraeducators to earn their education degrees through a residency-like approach with partner universities. The solution provided relevant, portfolio-based learning and mentorship. As a result, over 50 future educators are now on the path to filling critical classroom vacancies, with the first cohort of 19 new teachers expected to graduate in 2025.
