A Blender (exclude: open-source) Case Study
Blue Zoo, an animation studio based in London, faced the challenge of creating a pro bono short film for the charity PAPYRUS UK while also providing its team an opportunity to experiment with new software. Their goal was to produce a 3D animated film with integrated 2D effects that visually represented the feeling of depression.
The studio implemented Blender, specifically utilizing its Grease Pencil tool, to create the short film "Sinking Feeling." This allowed them to integrate 2D animation into 3D scenes seamlessly. The solution enabled a team of thirty artists, many of whom were new to Blender, to efficiently complete the project. Using Blender resulted in a successful, emotionally impactful film that was published online and submitted to animation festivals, while also serving as a valuable experiment for the studio's future use of the software on larger projects.
