Regulr launches a privacy-first social distancing app in 2 weeks with BLDR

BLDR partnered with their portfolio company Regulr to address a challenge presented by the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns in spring 2020. The goal was to find a way to be helpful by creating a solution that was both possible to build and could aid in public health efforts during a time of massive constraint.

BLDR rapidly developed a mobile app named Distance, which used Regulr's proprietary technology to provide a proximity alert. The solution vibrated and played alert tones when devices came within six feet of each other to help people maintain social distancing. While the app was built and ready for launch, BLDR faced approval challenges from Apple. To achieve their goal of helping people, they decided to give the app away to a partner organization that could release it, though a partner had not been secured by the end of May 2020.
