A BlackLine Case Study
Veolia, a global leader in water, waste and energy management with over 174,000 employees, created a North America shared services center in 2013 but still relied on Excel spreadsheets and shared drives for reconciliations. That approach produced poor visibility, lost or misplaced documentation (including a bank reconciliation missed for five months), audit risk and frustrated analysts trying to verify files across disparate locations.
In mid-2016 Veolia implemented BlackLine—integrated with SAP and including Account Reconciliations, Journal Entry, Task Management and Transaction Matching—creating a single, auditable repository with systematic approvals and real-time dashboards. The switch centralized documentation, standardized reconciliations, improved control and audit readiness, and freed staff to focus on quality improvements.
