Case Study: Tarmac (a CRH company) achieves real-time control and saves up to 450 hours per month with BlackLine

A BlackLine Case Study

Preview of the Tarmac Case Study

Increasing Visibility and Control while Saving up to 450 Hours per Month

Tarmac, a CRH company and the UK’s leading sustainable building materials business with around 7,000 employees and a nationwide network of sites, struggled after mergers with multiple ERPs, inconsistent manual reconciliations and spreadsheet-based task tracking. These issues, combined with staff reductions, left the shared services center with limited visibility, control and a risky, time-consuming month-end close.

Using BlackLine deployed through Project MERIT (a seven-month rollout across five ERPs and ~6,800 GL accounts), Tarmac standardized reconciliations, automated journals and implemented task management. The result: real-time visibility and control, fewer errors, 60% of accounts auto-certified, savings of 150–450 hours per month and reduced overtime, more staff time for analysis, and a move toward continuous accounting.
