Increasing Transparency and Streamlining Reconciliations, amid Resistance to Change

Baxter Credit Union (BCU), founded in 1981 and serving more than 200,000 members from Vernon Hills, Illinois, experienced rapid growth—surpassing $2 billion in assets—and realized its long-standing, highly manual reconciliation process could not scale. Change was difficult for long-tenured staff, but the organization needed to modernize finance operations to support continued expansion.

BCU implemented BlackLine’s cloud-based Account Reconciliations to automate reconciliations, improve visibility, and free accountants to focus on analytics and resolving discrepancies. The change reduced time spent on monthly reconciliations, increased transparency with better reporting, positioned the credit union for growth using fewer resources, and gave finance more time to address process issues—while the team still uses only about half of BlackLine’s capabilities.
