A BlackLine Case Study

Achieving Consistency and Visibility in the Reconciliation Process

Balfour Beatty is a 115‑year‑old international infrastructure group with around 28,000 employees delivering construction, support services and infrastructure investments worldwide. The company faced fragmented reconciliation processes across multiple operating units and accounting systems, which created inconsistent practices, limited visibility and higher risk as reconciliations were performed locally without central oversight.

To solve this, Balfour Beatty centralized its accounting processes and implemented BlackLine for account reconciliations and matching. BlackLine’s usability allowed the team to consolidate workflows, cut monthly reconciliations from about 6,000 to under 2,000, automate main bank reconciliations, eliminate most manual steps and significantly reduce risk and reconciliation time across the group.
