Statewide Corrections Agent Safety Monitoring

The Minnesota Department of Corrections faced the challenge of protecting corrections agents who travel statewide and sometimes work 12–14 hour shifts; phone- or app-based alerting was too slow and the agency needed instant duress alerts, location tracking, and long battery life. After field tests, the Minnesota Department of Corrections selected Blackline Safety’s Loner GPS as the solution to meet these requirements.

Blackline Safety deployed Loner GPS devices and the Loner Portal, worked with the DOC to establish policies, procedures and training, and configured reporting intervals to balance location accuracy with battery life; monitoring staff now use the web application to verify alerts and escalate emergencies. As a result, the Minnesota Department of Corrections can monitor employees across most of the state, provide convenient duress alerting, maintain coverage through long shifts, and add a measurable layer of protection for isolated workers.
