Parkland Refinery protects 1 neighborhood with Blackline Safety plume monitoring

Parkland Refinery, located next to a residential neighborhood, faced a challenge when an equipment malfunction caused a hazardous smoke plume. The Burnaby Fire Department needed to quickly monitor the air and predict the plume's movement to protect the community and make informed safety decisions. They turned to vendor Blackline Safety for a solution.

Blackline Safety's solution deployed EXO portable area monitors and integrated them with Vlahi's CERES plume modelling software. This provided real-time gas readings and accurate predictions of the plume's dispersion. The data confirmed the surrounding area was safe, allowing officials to confidently avoid an unnecessary evacuation. The results included safer work conditions for responders and the protection of the entire neighborhood.
