Osborne Overcomes Gade Valley Viaduct Tracking Challenge With Blackline’s Connected Safety Solution

Osborne faced a personnel-tracking challenge on the Gade Valley Viaduct where GPS and GSM signals were blocked or reflected inside the structure, entrants already carried gas monitors and radios, and the project had no budget for expensive tracking infrastructure. In 2017 Osborne engaged Blackline Safety to evaluate options and trial their G7 devices and wireless Location Beacons as a low-overhead tracking solution.

Blackline Safety overcame the constraints by deploying self-powered Location Beacons with G7 units and installing a signal repeater/booster to restore GSM connectivity for evaluation. The G7/Beacon system gave Osborne real-time location and 4-gas monitoring, man-down and messaging functionality, proved pinpoint accuracy to individual spans (location precision down to ~5 metres), allowed Osborne to swap rented 4-gas units for G7s within existing budgets, and delivered a scalable, future-proof solution.
