Why This Leading Manufacturer of Healthcare Technology Trusts BlackBerry Workspaces to Keep its File Security in Good Health

Olympus, a global manufacturer of precision instruments known for its medical endoscopes, needed a more efficient and secure way for field technicians to access large, frequently updated manuals and specifications. Their previous digital system required connectivity, so technicians had to pre-download or print documents—creating risk of outdated information, lost/stolen devices, and potential intellectual property leaks.

Olympus implemented BlackBerry Workspaces, a native iPad app providing offline viewing, file-level AES-256 encryption, and granular DRM controls (role-based access, print watermarks, expiration dates and logging), after careful testing and a phased 2016 rollout. The platform improved version control, dramatically reduced information-leak risk, helped meet international compliance requirements, and positioned Olympus to expand the solution into other business areas.
