A BlackBerry Case Study
Unopiù, a leading European outdoor-furnishings retailer with 33 showrooms and global distribution, faced inefficient warehouse operations because its RF barcode scanners required a wireless LAN and bulky, obsolete terminals. When stock moved to showrooms or trade shows, employees had to track inventory manually and later update the server, creating delays, errors and the need for costly equipment replacement.
The company deployed BlackBerry smartphones with BlackBerry Enterprise Server and a TC Data wrist-worn Bluetooth barcode scanner app, enabling 40 operators to scan items and update inventory in real time from anywhere. The solution eliminated LAN constraints, delivered immediate stock visibility, provided email and remote access, required no extra training, reduced replacement costs by 50%, and produced faster, more accurate warehouse management.
