Security company delivers value-added services and reduces operating costs with BlackBerry NFC solution

Sovereign Security, a Nottingham-based provider of mobile patrols, key holding and guarding services, needed a way to differentiate in a crowded UK security market and better manage many field officers. Owner Darren Brookes wanted Near Field Communication (NFC)–enabled proof of work and real-time oversight, but found no off-the-shelf solution and partnered with local integrator Sero Solutions to build one.

They deployed BlackBerry smartphones running Sero’s Pretum NFC app, penny-sized RFID tags and a cloud management system, using BBM for secure communications. The system captures time and location, prompts SLA checks, and enables photo/voice incident reporting — driving alert compliance to 80%, cutting fuel costs by 25%, halving payroll processing effort, lowering mobile costs, and delivering stronger client satisfaction through real-time, paperless reporting.
