A BlackBerry Case Study
Raleigh‑Durham International Airport (RDU) upgraded to an all‑IP network with hundreds of Cisco IP phones and digital displays but struggled with a fragmented pager-based notification system. Managing separate channels and an inaccurate external contact list made alerts chaotic, slowed response, and prevented interoperable communications with airlines, vendors and first responders.
RDU implemented BlackBerry AtHoc Connect in a phased rollout to unify messaging across smartphones, email, SMS, Cisco IP phones and digital displays and to create a permission‑based network with partner organizations. The result: one console for targeted alerts, delivery acknowledgements and detailed reports, redundant channels for reliability, delegated contact maintenance by partner organizations, stronger situational awareness and better coordination across the airport community.
