Parks Department Improves Productivity and Inspection Processes with Help from BlackBerry Smartphone

The City of Prince George Parks Department, which maintains 150 parks and inspects up to 40 sites daily, struggled with a paper-based inspection process that required hand-written reports to be manually entered into spreadsheets. This approach consumed more than two hours per day of administrative time, caused delays of days in reporting, risked lost paperwork and left the city exposed to liability because it could not quickly prove inspections had been completed.

Working with Noratek Solutions, the city deployed ParkReporter on BlackBerry smartphones, replacing clipboards with digital forms that sync to a hosted database and include GPS, time and date stamps. The new system eliminated back-end data entry, provided near real-time visibility of crews and inspections, improved customer response, increased administrative productivity by about two hours per day, and helped document due diligence—resulting in better service and no legal concerns since implementation.
