A BlackBerry Case Study
Napa County, California — home to about 140,000 residents and more than 1,400 county employees across 21 departments — needed a way to let mobile staff use personal devices while protecting sensitive citizen and employee data and meeting HIPAA, HITECH and state breach‑disclosure requirements. With many workers in the field and pressure to do more with the same staff, IT faced rising BYOD demand but also the risk of exposing law‑enforcement addresses, health records and other confidential information.
The county deployed Good Enterprise Suite on roughly 400 personal and county devices, using secure containers, encryption, remote wipe and access controls (Good Access/Good Share) to keep work data separate and protected. The result: faster response times, fewer office round‑trips and lower costs; continuity during a 6.0 earthquake when 500 staff couldn’t reach office systems; and six years with no device‑data breaches, enabling wider rollout and planned custom app development.
