Manufacturing Customers Get a Mobile Catalog of Gaskets Thanks to a New BlackBerry Smartphone App

Triangle Fluid Controls (TFC) is a small Canadian manufacturer and distributor of Durlon® non-asbestos gaskets and sealing products serving mining, oil and gas customers worldwide. Their customers and technicians often work in remote locations without reliable Internet, making it difficult to select the correct gasket or sealant from thousands of options—mistakes can cause leaks, equipment damage or safety hazards.

TFC partnered with FloatPoint Media to create iGasket™, a free BlackBerry app that works offline and guides users to the right gasket by prompting for six key parameters (use, temperature, pressure, flange class/type and fluid), then displaying matching Durlon® products with images and descriptions plus a toll-free contact option. The app strengthened customer relations and safety, boosted brand visibility, generated international inquiries, helped TFC compete with larger rivals, and set the stage for GPS-enabled distributor-finding features.
