Malaysian Government Agency Streamlines User Authentication with Help from the BlackBerry Solution

The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), a Malaysian government agency that manages 278 Pasar Tani (farmers’ markets), faced an aging mobile platform that could not meet growing field officer demands — especially reliable wireless access in areas without 3G, secure user authentication, remote access to corporate websites and databases, and durable hardware suitable for fieldwork.

CompuRex implemented Smart-Track preloaded on BlackBerry smartphones paired with a Bluetooth smartcard reader using citizens’ MyKad for two-factor authentication; a successful 10-device trial led to full deployment across all 278 markets. The solution delivered secure, efficient access to internal systems and vendor records, streamlined field verification and pricing checks, and proved cost-effective thanks to BlackBerry’s durability, battery life and data efficiency.
