A BlackBerry Case Study
Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, which serves about 200,000 residents in England’s West Midlands with a 3,000‑strong workforce, needed a cost‑effective way to boost efficiency as austerity squeezed budgets. Employees wanted to use personal smartphones and tablets for work, but IT had to ensure citizen and staff data remained secure and meet UK public service network (PSN) requirements before allowing BYOD.
The Council deployed the Good Collaboration Suite (including Good for Enterprise) to containerize work apps and data on personal devices, plus iAnnotate and ShareFile QuickEdit for document editing. About 340 staff and elected officials adopted the solution; employees report saving 2–4 hours per week, equipment and printing costs fell, meetings and decision‑making became faster, and the project earned Computer Weekly recognition.
