How BBM Helps This Non Profit Save Lives on a Global Scale

GlobalMedic is a Toronto-based nonprofit founded in 1998 by paramedic Rahul Singh that deploys search-and-rescue, emergency medical services, and supplies to disaster zones worldwide. With more than 2,000 volunteers and operations in 60 countries, the organization needed reliable, visible, and accountable communications during crises where local networks are often down and coordination bottlenecks can cost critical time.

GlobalMedic adopted Emtek‑licensed BBM on its BlackBerry devices to create instant, cross‑platform channels and BBM Groups for each modality (Search & Rescue, Medical, Water). BBM provides written records, real‑time updates, rapid rerouting, and remote technical support—cutting response times, saving hundreds of man‑hours, and improving visibility across global relief efforts (for example, during the 2016 Fort McMurray response).
