A BlackBerry Case Study

Helping A City Connect Using Blackberry

The City of Waterloo, a technology-focused North American municipality of about 131,000 people, needed affordable, modern mobile tools to meet high citizen expectations, improve emergency coordination, and deliver location-aware access to city services. Budget constraints meant the city required secure, cost-effective solutions and partners who could help maximize their investment.

Waterloo deployed BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 and issued 183 BlackBerry 10 smartphones, using BBM for real-time collaboration and working with partners to launch the Pingstreet location-aware app. Within two months BES10 was live citywide; Pingstreet has been adopted by a dozen municipalities and downloaded 14,000+ times, BBM improved emergency coordination, and the BlackBerry approach delivered strong security and a low total cost of ownership.
