Government Agency Boosts Speed And Efficiency Of Transport Incident Investigations

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), the federal agency that investigates aviation, marine and rail incidents across Australia and parts of Asia, needed a secure mobile platform to share high‑resolution photos and text from often remote and sensitive crash sites. The challenge was to combine device and backend security that met Australian Signals Directorate standards while allowing staff to use devices for personal purposes without compromising corporate data.

ATSB rolled out BlackBerry Z10 and Z30 smartphones managed by BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 with BlackBerry Balance, integrating with its Evidence Tracking System. The solution provided end‑to‑end, ASD‑certified security and real‑time data sharing, delivering faster, more efficient investigations, minimal transition costs, strong staff adoption and scalability for future capabilities such as live video streaming.
