A BlackBerry Case Study
Caravan Group, an Oakville, Ontario–based asset-heavy cross-border carrier serving ambient and refrigerated truckload and LTL markets, struggled with inefficient, manual yard checks, limited trailer visibility, maintenance scheduled by time rather than miles, and unreliable in‑market tracking options. These issues drove higher capital and labor costs, risked cargo integrity for reefers, and prevented effective trailer utilization and billing.
Caravan deployed BlackBerry Radar’s quick-to-install (<10 minutes) trailer monitors, gaining near‑real‑time location, load status, temperature and utilization data via a web portal. The result: more than an hour saved per yard per day, a 7% fleet reduction (deferring trailer purchases), 50% longer preventative‑maintenance intervals for underused trailers, prevented cargo loss, reduced liability and misuse, and new revenue opportunities from accurate detention and misuse billing.
