A BlackBerry Case Study
m-Health Solutions (mHS) is a small Canadian mHealth company that helps family doctors detect cardiac arrhythmias more quickly. Faced with cumbersome 24–48 hour monitors, multiple hospital visits and long waits for specialist diagnosis, mHS sought a way to enable faster, more convenient testing that could be used directly by primary-care physicians and covered by provincial health plans.
mHS launched m-CARDS: a kit with an Event Loop Recorder that records up to two weeks of data and a BlackBerry smartphone that transmits Bluetooth data to mHS’s BlackBerry Enterprise Server for remote interpretation. Kits arrive within 24 hours, cardiologists review results remotely, and the average time to diagnosis dropped to eight days; more than 400 physicians have used m-CARDS for nearly 2,500 patients, delivering earlier diagnoses, better clinical data, reduced wait times and secure device management.
