Productos Familia S.A. is a Colombian manufacturer of personal hygiene products with more than 50 years in the market, manufacturing in Colombia, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic and selling to over 20 countries. Its field sales reps were burdened by carrying both a cell phone and a PDA that lacked continuous wireless connectivity, leading to inaccurate orders from outdated pricing, delayed processing and deliveries, difficulty settling payments on-site, and higher costs from maintaining separate voice and data plans.

Productos Familia deployed BlackBerry smartphones with a customized Ventax app and Bluetooth printers to combine voice and data, synchronize with the ERP, submit orders in real time (with automatic resubmission when offline), and access pricing, account and credit information. The change let reps carry one device, reduced service costs, improved order accuracy and processing speed, enabled on-the-spot payments and receipts, and increased operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
