Anytime Mobile Access Improves Clinical Trial Process

Salix Pharmaceuticals, a Raleigh-based developer and marketer of gastrointestinal prescription products, needed faster, more reliable subject-reported data for FDA-regulated clinical trials. Although Salix had equipped trial participants with iPads running Medidata Patient Cloud, the devices were Wi‑Fi only, causing multi-day delays in diary entries and threatening data accuracy and timeliness.

Salix adopted Macheen Mobile Connect (now part of Good Technology) to give iPads managed, HIPAA‑compliant broadband on both cellular and Wi‑Fi networks without individual carrier contracts; VOX Mobile provisions devices to Salix’s specs. The change delivered more timely and accurate patient data, improved participant convenience, lower mobility costs, and simplified device management, with plans to expand mobile solutions and consider BYOD options.
