Alfa-Bank expands mobile banking to BlackBerry smartphones and is the first Russian bank to launch a BlackBerry app

Alfa-Bank, one of Russia’s largest private banks with millions of retail customers and hundreds of branches, sought to maintain its high customer service standards by bringing mobile banking to growing smartphone users—particularly affluent, frequently traveling customers who favored BlackBerry devices. Market research showed BlackBerry was popular with this demographic, so the bank needed a secure, convenient way for clients to access accounts on the go.

Working with Aion, Alfa-Bank launched Alfa-Mobile for BlackBerry, offering balances, transfers, payments, branch/ATM locators, exchange rates and cardholder discounts; the app was distributed via BlackBerry App World and pre-installed on Beeline devices. The app rolled out within months, attracted thousands of downloads in weeks, improved anytime access for key customers, reinforced the bank’s reputation for innovation and leveraged BlackBerry’s security and ease of development.
