Advocacy Group For The Deaf And Hard Of Hearing Gives High Marks To Blackberry Accessibility Features

TDI (Telecommunications for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Inc.) is a U.S. nonprofit and FCC-recognized advocate serving more than 4,800 members. As mobile technologies replaced home TTY machines, TDI needed accessible, reliable devices that let staff and members communicate on the go, stay connected with media and policymakers, and accommodate varying degrees of hearing loss.

TDI adopted BlackBerry smartphones and accessories—BBM, push email, QWERTY keyboards, customizable vibrations, FCC hearing-aid–compatible models, the BlackBerry Sound-Isolating Headset, and relay apps like SIPRelay and IP-Relay—plus Facebook and Twitter apps for rapid updates. The result was greater freedom to communicate anywhere, faster advocacy and member outreach, richer social and multimedia interaction, and high user satisfaction driven by ease of use and practical accessibility features.
