A Big Four Accounting Firm Creates Cutting-Edge Mobile Apps with Help from Research In Motion’s Corporate Developer Program

PwC Canada’s Mobile Application Development team set out to build productivity apps for its 5,200 employees and off-site consultants to improve access to internal resources, support recruitment branding, and address offline connectivity. Developers’ unfamiliarity with Java made app development slow and costly, limiting the team to about two apps per year.

By joining RIM’s Corporate Developer Program and using the BlackBerry WebWorks SDK, PwC gained dedicated technical support, loaner devices for real‑device testing, and a web‑technology workflow that sped prototyping to two–three weeks. The team has delivered 11+ apps (e.g., PwC Canada News, Conference Agenda, Today’s Opportunity and a Tax Rates app), achieved in‑house cost savings, leveraged Super Apps integration for seamless push and calendar features, and received strong positive feedback.
