U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria: Smart Community Uses AtHoc to Protect Citizens

U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria (USAG Bavaria) relied on BlackBerry’s AtHoc to notify staff and receive updates, but emergency manager Kim Alahmadi faced a bigger problem: her community spans 180 miles and includes numerous schools, agencies and installations, yet she lacked reliable, up-to-date contact information and a fast way to reach external partners. Manual, time-consuming admin work risked delays in reaching the 35,500 service members, families and support personnel who depend on timely alerts.

BlackBerry AtHoc Connect solved this by hosting neighboring organizations in a secure VPS, enabling multi-channel alerts (phone, email, SMS, push) to designated points of contact and giving each organization self-service control of its personnel data. The result: faster, more accurate external communications, reduced administrative burden for the garrison, and a coordinated “Smart Community” able to deliver unified responses and better protect USAG Bavaria’s population.
