Major U.S. Airport - Customer Case Study

A major U.S. international airport with over 5,000 staff and its own police and fire services faced a fragmented emergency communications environment. Relying on pagers, PA systems, digital displays, about 700 Cisco IP phones and separate SMS tools, the operations center had to manage multiple channels manually, causing delays, duplicated effort and difficulty reaching external partners during incidents.

The airport implemented BlackBerry AtHoc in two phases to unify messaging across smartphones, SMS, email, Cisco phones and digital displays, and to interoperate with 21 external organizations. Using roughly 200 incident templates and 1,800 licenses, plus a Microsoft Teams integration for instant video calls, the solution delivered faster coordination, improved situational awareness, time savings in incident response and ongoing rollout to responders and terminal teams.
